DL English Design Studio - About us
DL English Design Studio hatches intuitive and dynamic design while providing functional, tempting retail environments for our clients and their customers. We continually evolve through a wide range of experiences that enrich our lives, work, and art.
Our portfolio and interests are wide ranging - from fashion retail to groundbreaking residential projects. Our emphasis and major focus is on food-service interiors, from the initial space planning and food venue creation, to final decor/graphics design and installation.
We believe innovation comes from uncommon thinking:
Research driven, we immerse ourselves into communities to provide fresh and unmatched design solutions. We achieve this through distinct design, environmental graphics, and art.
We follow through and make it happen:
We work closely with local fabricators to ensure your project is built to project standards based on design, quality, budget, and functionality.
Our relationships with clients go beyond design:
We build long-standing relationships with our clients through open dialogue and collaboration. The success of our projects reflects work of quality and integrity.

Deborah L. English / President
Deborah is an expert at creating unique solutions tailored to each client. Her varied interests continually inspire innovative, authentic projects. A hands-on approach is her signature, with a strong passion for integrating art into her work.
She thinks like a retailer. Before launching her own firm she established herself in retail as Vice President of Store Design and Construction for Bristol Farms Markets and Wherehouse Entertainment. With over 20 years in retail design she has overseen all aspects of project development — from strategic planning, through store construction and visual display.
Trail running the hills of Laguna and life-size figurative sculpting provide off-time rejuvenation; discovering new experiences to share with her young granddaughter completes the circle.
Barry Jacob / Design Director
Barry has an exceptional ability to use everyday experiences to inspire designs. He is able to deliver a freethinking sensibility into any project.
He has been involved in architectural interior design since graduating from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). Prior to this he studied Industrial and Environmental Design at Parsons School of Design and at California State University, Long Beach. As a LEEDŽ Accredited Professional he is a strong proponent of sustainable design.
His understanding of the needs and perspective of a retailer comes from his experience in-house for retailer BCBG Max Azria, as well as for Design Office during the rollout of MaxStudio stores nationwide.
